Teen murder suspects denied bond

Posted: Updated:

Two Jackson teens facing capital murder charges were denied bond during their first appearance before a judge Thursday morning.

The mother of the victim says 16-year-old Jamiria Travis set her son up to be killed because her boyfriend wanted Vizavian Darby's Dodge Charger.  The body of Vizavian Darby, 17, was found Saturday on Carter Avenue near Markham Street with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. His body was found in a grassy field.

The 16-year-old female and 18-year-old male accused of killing Darby had nothing to say after they were denied bond and told they face life in prison or the death penalty if convicted.

Family and friends of Darby told WLBT News Thursday they were devastated by the brutal murder and called it a senseless crime. His mother stuck to her story that the 16-year-old girl set up her son after she allegedly asked him for a ride home.

The mother and family members of 16-year-old Jamiria Travis had nothing to say as they left the courtroom. Laqunn Gary told a judge he didn't know if anyone from his family was in court. He will be represented by a court appointed attorney.

Police say the stolen 2011 Dodge Charger driven by Darby was recovered.
