UAB beats Southern Miss 71-61

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Cameron Moore scored 27 points on 12 of 15 shooting as Alabama-Birmingham defeated Southern Mississippi 71-61 Wednesday night, handing the Golden Eagles only their second loss in the past 18 games.

The game was tied 49-49 with 8 minutes to play before the Blazers (10-13, 5-5 Conference USA) scored seven consecutive points to take the lead for good. Southern Miss (20-4, 7-2) never pulled closer than four points the rest of the way.

UAB's Jordan Swing scored 5 of his 15 points in the final 4 minutes, including a 3-pointer that gave the Blazers a 65-57 lead.

Jonathan Mills led the Golden Eagles with 14 points. Mills, 1 of the Golden Eagles' best interior players, scored only two points in the first half after picking up two fouls in the first 3 minutes.

The Blazers made 8 of their first nine shots to take an 18-14 lead, and led 32-28 at halftime.
